PENNY CLIFFORD

Following her return to this country from South Africa in 1980, where she had been studying pottery under the whatchful eye of albert and Elise Rachmann, Penny attended the then Redruth college of art until its closure in 1984.  From this evolved her own business.

Penny has been making pottery now for nearly thirty years and since starting Pen-Lyn pottery in 1985. there has seen a big evolution in her designs and concepts. Living by the sea for all those years has undoubtedly added to the inspiration which goes into the pots that you see today.

Each piece of this hand thrown contemporary studio pottery, is very unique in its design.  Some pieces are incized by hand and finished in Penny's unique cobalt blue and turqoise colouring, which is airbrushed on then finished w400px_DSCF0027ith a high gloss transparent glaze and finally the real platinum lustre is applied ready for the third and final firing.

In 2005 Penny qualified to teach adult education classes, which are now running to include both recreational and accredited courses in City and Guilds, NCFE in creative craft and leisure courses.  http://www.cornwall-acl.ac.uk/  or  e mail: aenewquay@cornwall.gov.uk
